Courtney and Sev’s ambitious rooftop terrace plan has already become a major talking point on The Block. But as the debate around House 4 grows, Courtney has revealed another detail she deliberately kept quiet during the competition — and it explains why she may have understood the building process better than viewers realised.
Courtney and Sev have never been short of ambition on The Block.
Their plans for House 4 have already attracted attention, but their attempt to secure approval for a rooftop terrace has taken that attention to another level.
According to Courtney, the proposal prompted complaints from the other teams.
Yet while much of the focus has been on what Courtney and Sev hope to build above their home, another story has now emerged about Courtney herself.
And this one goes back to the very beginning of the competition.
Courtney finally reveals the job she kept quiet

Away from The Block, Courtney works as a construction-site manager.
It is a significant detail for someone competing on a renovation program, giving her professional experience in managing building sites and understanding how construction projects operate.
But Courtney says she deliberately avoided drawing attention to that experience while filming.
Speaking to TV WEEK, she suggested she was far from the only contestant who arrived with more industry knowledge than viewers might initially have expected.
Courtney claimed that several of her fellow contestants had substantial backgrounds in construction, renovation or design.
That helped shape her decision to keep her own experience relatively quiet.
She even played down how much she knew
Courtney has now revealed just how far she went to avoid making her professional background obvious.
At times, she says, she would behave as though she did not recognise certain construction terminology.
She recalled other contestants correcting her or displaying knowledge of their own, something that reinforced her belief that plenty of experience was already hidden among the teams.
Courtney told TV WEEK:
“Everyone had experience, so I just assumed they knew the same about me.”
Her comments add a new layer to the competition.
Although The Block places contestants under unfamiliar pressure, several members of this year’s cast entered with skills that could prove particularly valuable once construction became more complicated.
For Courtney, that experience was simply something she chose not to put at the centre of her story.
Then the rooftop plan became a talking point
Courtney’s revelation comes at an interesting moment for House 4.
She and Sev are attempting to have a rooftop terrace approved — an addition that could potentially give their property another selling feature when auction day arrives.
But the idea has not gone unnoticed by their rivals.
Courtney says the other teams lodged complaints after learning about the proposal.
“They all put in complaints.”
She added that she and Sev had expected some resistance to the plan.
The question now is whether that reaction will have any effect on what they ultimately manage to build.
Why the rooftop terrace could matter

On The Block, a design decision is rarely only about what looks good during room reveals.
Contestants are ultimately renovating properties that will go to auction, meaning decisions made during filming can have consequences well beyond weekly judging.
A rooftop terrace could potentially add another distinctive feature to House 4.
That makes the debate particularly interesting: Courtney and Sev are not simply making a styling choice, but pursuing an addition they clearly believe could strengthen the finished property.
TV WEEK raises the possibility that the opposition from other contestants could put pressure on the plan, although the final outcome has not yet been revealed.
For now, Courtney and Sev appear prepared for the debate to continue.
Their experience was never entirely ordinary
Courtney and Sev entered the competition with a considerable amount of relevant professional knowledge between them.
Courtney works in commercial construction, while Sev is a commercial interior designer.
Earlier profiles of the pair described Courtney’s résumé as including work on universities, schools, hotels, resorts, shopping centres and hospitality venues, as well as personal renovation projects.
Sev, meanwhile, brings professional design experience to the partnership.
