Sarah Abo returns to the Logies just weeks after welcoming baby Sonny — and reveals the one thing she couldn’t stop thinking about

Sarah Abo had a very different reason to feel nervous on the 2026 TV WEEK Logies red carpet.

Just weeks after welcoming her first child, the Today host made her first major public appearance as a new mum — and admitted that leaving her baby for the evening felt far more difficult than walking into one of Australia’s biggest television events.

Her first night away from Sonny

Abo welcomed her son Sonny in late July with her husband, Cyrus Moran, after more than a decade of marriage.

By the time she arrived at the Logies, Sonny was only a few weeks old.

Speaking to nine.com.au on the red carpet, Abo admitted it was her first night away from her newborn — although he was never far from her thoughts.

“I’m feeling alright. It’s my first night kind of away from him. He’s upstairs, though, so I’m going to be checking in every hour!” she said.

The new mum then offered a glimpse into just how completely motherhood has changed her world.

“I’m obsessed with him, actually. It’s amazing,” she said.

“As soon as you give birth, your whole world revolves around this little tiny human, and you’ll do anything for them.”

From the baby bubble to the Logies red carpet

For the past four weeks, Abo said she had been living firmly inside her “baby bubble”.

Stepping out for the Logies therefore required a little more preparation than usual — and she jokingly described getting ready for the evening as something of a “superhero effort”.

Still, she was clearly happy to make the occasion.

“I think it’s a nice opportunity to be there with you guys all as well,” she told her Today colleagues, including Tom Steinfort, Sylvia Jeffreys and Jayne Azzopardi.

And there was an added comfort in knowing Sonny was nearby.

Sonny has already met the Today team

The little boy has already made his own television debut.

Earlier in August, Abo brought Sonny into the Today studio to meet the team, giving viewers their first glimpse of the newest member of the Today family.

His arrival has marked a deeply personal new chapter for Abo, who stepped away from the program earlier than originally expected during her pregnancy.

Now, just weeks into motherhood, she was back among the colleagues and television world she knows so well — even if her attention remained firmly fixed on the tiny person upstairs.

A nomination that still feels surreal

The Logies also gave Abo another reason to celebrate.

She was nominated for the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter, while Today was nominated for Best Current Affairs Program.

For Abo, the nomination carried a meaning that went well beyond the awards ceremony itself.

She recalled watching Australian television and the Logies while growing up and said her younger self would never have imagined one day walking the red carpet as a nominee.

“I think growing up watching Australian television, I just loved what I saw on the screen,” she said.

“To be actually nominated, it feels surreal, to be honest.”

A special moment in a completely new chapter

Abo also acknowledged the calibre of the journalists alongside her in the category, describing them as people she had admired for years.

“I’m the youngest one, the least experienced one, but just to be nominated among them is so incredibly special, and I’m really honoured,” she said.

For one night, Sarah Abo stepped away from the quiet world of newborn cuddles and sleepless nights and back into the glamour of Australian television.

But with Sonny only a short distance away, this Logies appearance was about more than a nomination or a red carpet.

It was the first glimpse of Sarah finding her way back into the spotlight — while carrying the biggest new role of her life with her.
