EXCLUSIVE: As a long-time single person, Married At First Sight’s Rachel developed a “game plan” for going on dates.
While she’s now in a solid relationship with Steven, in her extended audition tape Rachel shared the strategy she has used on every date – and there’s a devastating truth behind it.
“I have a game plan when I go on dates, and it’s I always get there first. I like to get in there and get seated,” she said.
“So then I feel like I have some kind of control over the situation of how they’ll see me when they come in.”
Rachel said she often “laughed off” her dating experiences to avoid getting upset. (Nine)
It’s a move that became more heartbreaking as Rachel opened up about her physical insecurities.
“I’m not the most skinny, beautiful thing. There are a lot of beautiful women up out there and I just don’t feel like I stack up against them at times, or a lot of the time,” she said.
“If I were to go out right now, looking like this and I feel like I look good and I put the effort in, I don’t think anyone ever looks at me with lust ever.”
It had been 14 years since Rachel had a “proper” relationship, with most of her dating life being defined by “situations” that left her wondering when it would be her turn to find love.
“I think the biggest thing for me is just never being the one. All my exes that I’ve had long-term situations with have all gone on to other partners, have all gone on to other women,” she said.
“And the one question you will always ask ‘Well, why wasn’t it me? Why was I not good enough?’ because it happens so quickly.”
Rachel also spoke about the comments and labels she’s been given from dates in the past.
“The label ‘too much’ – I feel like I wear it across my forehead,” she said.
