‘Unreal’: Farmer’s huge Australia Day tribute stuns Aussies

A South Australian farmer has turned heads after unveiling a massive tribute to the nation in his family’s paddock.

South Australian farmer Harrison Schuster has stunned Aussies by carving a massive Australia Day tribute into his family’s paddock.

The man from Freeling, north of Adelaide, began tilling the mural with a tractor in the lead-up to January 26.

Complete with the Southern Cross, Aussie wildlife and an ANZAC soldier, the artwork spans a huge area of farmland and is visible in satellite imagery from space.

“In our region, the rule-of-thumb for when to plant grain crops is after Anzac Day,” the 29-year-old said in a post to social media.

“The operation of planting completely erases anything in the paddock. So I figured, if it will be visible until at least Anzac Day, let’s combine the two?

“To the greatest place. Happy Australia Day.”

Mr Schuster’s handiwork received hundreds of supportive comments online, with Aussies calling it “bloody epic” and “unreal”.

Some found the image so impressive they thought it must have been generated by AI.

“Holy cow! You’ve outdone yourself this year,” one commentator said.

“Well done and good to see some pride in our nation still exists in patches,” said another.

“Don’t agree with the including of the cross but it’s still a fantastic mural,” a third said.

This isn’t the first time Mr Schuster has unveiled Australia Day-themed mural on the family farm.

In 2024, the engineering graduate turned a 120ha paddock into a giant map of Australia.

He previously said the motivation behind the unique creations was “hobby with experimentation,” and to help put his small town of Freeling on the map.

“I wanted to see what’s possible with what we can do, and how complex a thing you can draw in the field.”

As for next year, Mr Schuster wrote that he had “one more idea” to come but “then I think it’s peaked”.
