Naveed Akram, who is currently in custody following the serious incident at Bondi Beach on December 14, made two specific requests while under guard at Long Bay Hospital.
While receiving treatment for injuries sustained during his arrest, Akram asked to speak with a chaplain and requested a copy of the Quran.
Ahmed Kilani, a chaplain who contracts for NSW Corrective Services, agreed to the meeting. According to reports, the visitation lasted approximately 10 to 15 minutes, with Mr. Kilani describing the detainee as compliant during their interaction. It is understood that Mr. Kilani is the only visitor Akram has received outside of legal or medical personnel.

Mr. Kilani, who works with inmates from various backgrounds, issued a statement regarding the tragedy. He offered his condolences to the community and specifically to the family of Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a fellow chaplain who lost his life during the incident.
“My deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” Mr. Kilani stated, emphasizing the importance of compassion and humanity during difficult times.
