“What a Legacy” — Sarah Abo’s Message to Tim Davies After His Final Today Morning
There was one familiar voice missing from Tim Davies’ final morning on Today — but Sarah Abo made sure her goodbye was still heard.
After Tim officially signed off from the program on Friday, September 18, Sarah shared a heartfelt message for her former colleague, reflecting on the seven years he spent travelling across the country and becoming one of the most recognisable faces of Today.
“Love you so much Timmy. ❤️❤️❤️ Everyone’s favourite – you bring sunshine wherever you go. What a legacy over seven years at Today. There’s nowhere you haven’t been and nothing you haven’t done. Congratulations my dear friend. And thank you for bringing us so much joy, warmth and laughter. You’re amazing. Now for some sleep-ins! 😅 ❤️ xx”
It was a particularly personal farewell from Sarah, who worked alongside Tim during her years at Today before stepping away from the program earlier this year.
And the timing made the message all the more poignant.
A final morning filled with familiar faces
Tim’s last broadcast brought together many of the people who had shared the journey with him since he joined Today in 2019.
His farewell included a surprise appearance from his original producer Gerry Campbell, members of the Australian Girls Choir and Qantas staff, who revealed that Tim had travelled the equivalent of around 16 trips around the world with the airline during his years on the road.
There was also a surprise visit from Ally Langdon, who asked Tim whether he was really ready to leave.
His answer captured the feeling of the morning.
“I’ve been everywhere, I’ve done everything, and I’ve done it with the best people,” Tim said, adding that he simply did not know how the experience could get any better. He said it was time to “do life a bit more now” and that he was leaving on a high.
As the farewell continued, Tim became emotional while thanking the people who had worked behind the scenes with him throughout the years.
He also paid tribute to the Today audience, saying one of the hardest things in life is to be your “true, authentic self” and thanking viewers for accepting him exactly as he was.
Seven years — and now a different kind of morning
Tim’s Today chapter began in 2019, and over more than seven years he became known for weather crosses from locations right across Australia and beyond.
The role involved more than 900 flights, countless communities and a long list of adventurous live television moments.
But after years of living out of a suitcase, Tim has said he is ready to slow down, enjoy some sleep-ins, take a break without a camera crew and prepare for whatever comes next.
That makes Sarah’s final line feel especially fitting.“Now for some sleep-ins!”After seven years of early mornings, flights and live crosses, Tim’s next chapter may begin with something much quieter.
And perhaps that is what made Sarah’s words feel less like a goodbye to a television colleague — and more like a goodbye from a friend who had watched the journey from close by.
