Kylie Gillies has reunited with her eldest son eight months after he left Australia to pursue a new life overseas. While the family photos captured the joy of their first hug since December, an insider has revealed just how emotional the long-awaited moment became for the Channel 7 star.

Kylie Gillies has finally been reunited with her eldest son after eight months apart, marking an emotional new chapter for the Morning Show presenter and her family.

The Channel 7 star, her husband Tony and younger son Archie have joined Gus, 24, after he moved more than 16,000km from Australia to pursue his career overseas.

For Kylie, the reunion came after months of adjusting to a very different family life — and according to an insider, the first embrace proved more emotional than the happy photos suggested.

A long-awaited family reunion

On August 24, Kylie shared the moment her family was finally together again.

“The Gillies gang is back together,” she wrote, telling followers: “We’ve joined Gus in Berlin. We’re so happy.”

She also posted a photo capturing what she described as her “first hug since last December”, alongside more images of herself with Gus and Archie.

“Gillies reunion tour is underway,” she captioned another family snap.

The moment came eight months after Kylie had shared an emotional farewell to Gus as he prepared to leave Australia.

“We’ve been wobbly these last few days after squeezing him tightly and saying goodbye at the International Airport,” she wrote in December 2025.

“Go get ’em Gus. We love you.”

Gus had previously spent around 18 months in Europe and returned as his career in film and commercial production began gaining momentum.

Life at home suddenly felt different

While Kylie has openly spoken about the pride she feels watching her sons become independent, the transition has also been bittersweet.

An insider told Woman’s Day that the change became particularly noticeable once the boys began building lives of their own.

“It was a strange adjustment for Kylie when the boys first left home. The house suddenly felt very different without the noise, laughter, and chaos,” the source said.

The insider added that Kylie was proud of both sons, even while missing having them close by.

“Kylie has always been so open about how bittersweet it is watching her boys grow up and become independent,” they said.

“Of course she misses them terribly, but there’s also an enormous sense of pride watching them out there making their own lives.”

The first hug brought everything back

After months of FaceTimes and messages, finally seeing Gus again was said to have brought those emotions to the surface.

“After all the FaceTimes and messages, being able to hug them again meant the world to Kylie,” the insider said.

According to the source, Kylie became overwhelmed during the reunion.

“She was a blubbering mess and cried for a good hour. She couldn’t stop cuddling them and staring at them.”

The presenter is now said to be making the most of having the family together again, knowing the reunion is only temporary.

“It’s about making memories while they’re all in the same place,” the insider explained.

“Kylie is absolutely loving being able to share these experiences with her boys.”

Kylie has previously summed up this stage of motherhood in her own words, admitting that watching her children leave home brings several conflicting emotions at once.

“It’s both exciting and scary – and I’m happy and sad all at once,” she told TV Week.

“You know what? That’s actually what motherhood’s about. Feeling 87 emotions all at once.”
