Danny wants to sit down with a lie detector to prove he didn’t claim Gia was his normal type.
Danny Hewitt is doubling down on his promise to do a lie detector test to put a major Married At First Sight rumour to bed. If you’ve been watching the 2026 season, chances are you’re privy to the issue that has been plaguing him and his bride Bec Zacharia.
Fellow MAFS contestant Gia Fleur alleged that Danny told her she would be his type in the outside world and the claim has rocked his relationship with Bec. But the 34-year-old is willing to front up a lot of money to prove his innocence.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it,” he said on Star 104.5’s Gina & Matty radio show.
“I’m happy to put $100,000 on the line and do a lie detector test.
“If that’s not proof, then I don’t know what is. I guarantee Gia wouldn’t do the same thing.”
He insists he never said that to Gia during a night out with the rest of the cast.
It was first aired at one of the show’s dinner parties thanks to now-departed bride Brook Crompton, who threatened to expose Danny’s alleged secret.
Bec eventually asked Gia, who quietly told her at the table what she claimed happened.
“I’m happy, but in the outside world, someone like yourself would be more my type,” Gia said to Bec as she recalled what she claimed Danny told her.
It sparked an almighty fight between Bec and Danny, with the bride storming out of the party alone.
The rumour caused a big rift between the two that has lasted for nearly two weeks, and Danny has been asked by seemingly everyone about the veracity of the rumour.
The experts and even Bec’s dad have grilled him about whether it’s true or not and he’s repeatedly denied it.
On Sunday’s commitment ceremony, he told Gia and the rest of the cast that he would have never said that because women with tattoos were not his type.
Gia has several tattoos on both arms as well as in her ear.
Viewers have been divided over whether they believe him or not, but Danny is insistent that it never happened.
“Obviously it’s not [true],” Danny said on Star 104.5.
“You’ve got to just watch my audition tape. When I talk about my type, I describe the complete opposite of Gia,” he said.
“It’s crazy how big it’s become, but yeah, it was never said.”
Danny’s $100,000 gamble was first aired when he appeared on Stan’s After The Dinner Party show.
He said the lie detector test should include both him and Gia, and they should both be asked about the rumour.
Danny added that the money should be given to charity, regardless of who the “winner” would be.
While Gia hasn’t backed down on what she said about Danny, she admitted to Channel 9 that she had regrets about how things have played out on the reality TV show.
“I think all of us girls were pretty catty throughout the experiment, and looking back now, there are a lot of things I wish I didn’t do,” she said.
“I’m not proud of that behaviour.”
