Crows captain Jordan Dawson in tears during tribute for brother Jaryd
Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson was seen distraught as he was comforted by his wife during an emotional tribute.
Jordan Dawson was in tears watching on as fans gave his brother Jaryd a standing ovation during an emotional moment at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
The Crows captain was comforted his wife Milly, as they watched on from seats that were behind glass at the venue.
The star midfielder did not play in the game after his brother Jaryd died earlier in the week.
His body was located near Robe in South Australia.
Jaryd’s wife Jessica earlier put out a public plea as a search was underway to locate Jaryd.
Crows star Dawson watched as the football club delivered an emotional tribute to his brother with a message displayed on the big screens at the 12-minute mark of the first quarter.

“Our collective thoughts are with our captain and the Dawson family during this very difficult time.”
The 29-year-old was overcome with emotion when Fox Footy cameras showed him during the classy tribute.

Code Sports reports Dawson was also in the dressing rooms with teammates before the game.
He watched the Crows’ thrilling win with his wife and injured teammate Mark Keane.
Dawson has not spoken publicly about the tragedy.
He would have been proud of his teammates as they held on for a heart-stopping one-point win over the Saints.
Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks also praised his players for their performance after such a difficult week for the club.
“It’s been an emotional week, a really emotional week, and to get a win’s a great result,” Nicks said.
“But I think when you spend time in a footy club like we are, you realise how lucky you are to be in a position like this when circumstances play out the way they did this week.
“In a really tough time for someone who means a lot to us, and a family that means a lot to us, we’re lucky we’re part of this football club, and the footy club’s done a great job.

“It’s tough when your captain’s not playing, but it was good to see a former captain step up.
“And I think there’s a bit in that, Tex is an emotional guy, and he was doing whatever he could to sort of make Jordan proud, so that probably adds to the win.”
Nicks said that there was no timeline for Dawson’s return to the line-up and that there was “no rush” as the club continued to prioritise the wellbeing of the skipper and his family.
Nicks said he was not aware what the club’s tribute was going to look like when the Crowd got to their feet at the 12-minute mark.
“It’s not an easy one for me to talk to, to be honest,” Nicks said on Fox Footy.
“The 12-minute mark (tribute), I didn’t actually know that was going (to happen); I thought it was beautiful, just the respect that is here.”
In the immediate post-match, Taylor Walker reflected on the circumstances in an on-field interview with Fox Footy’s Kath Loughnan.
“It’s been a pretty challenging week for our footy club and for ‘Daws’ and his family,” Walker said.
“So it was pretty special to be able to come out here and get the four points. When things like this happen in life, the best places to be are footy clubs.
“We’ve got amazing people and an amazing amount of care and support.
“We’re going to wrap our arms around ‘Daws’ and (his wife) Millie, (his parents) Tony and Marian and (his sister) Chloe, for a long time.
“It will be nice to get the skipper back when he’s ready. This is for all the Dawson family.”
Asked about the crowd tribute early in the first term, Walker called the moment “special” on the field.
“We’re in an industry that, no matter what club you play at, we wrap our arms around everyone. We’re able to show so much support,” he said.
“It’s a pretty special moment. As I said, that’s one for the Dawson family.”
Walker booted five goals and kicked the match winner deep into the fourth quarter.
Mitch Owens scrambled through his second major with 10 seconds left on the clock, but the Crows secured the ball from the restart to score a famous win.
It was a fitting end to a match full of momentum swings.
Adelaide trailed by 26 points early in the second quarter, but Walker kicked four goals in a stunning nine-goal blitz that propelled the home side to a 29-point lead midway through the third quarter.
The Crows led by 15 points at three-quarter time, but the Saints surged again to level the score with the first three goals of the final term after the home side was wasteful with five behinds to start the tense last quarter before finishing with their noses in front.

‘Know you’re at peace’: Jordan Dawson’s emotional tribute to brother Jaryd
Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson has posted an emotional tribute to his brother via social media, days after his death, saying the “hole in (his) heart hurts so bad”.
Jaryd Dawson went missing on Wednesday and his body was found on Wednesday evening. The death is not being treated as suspicious by police.
“My brother. My idol. The hole in my heart hurts so bad pal but I know you’re at peace you made me who I am today and I’m going to pass every bit of that competitive, stubborn, caring and passionate nature onto your beautiful boy,” the tribute post read.
“Huddy and Jess have an army behind them. I’ll miss you and love you forever Rod.”
Dawson teared up on Saturday night as the crowd paid tribute to his brother early in his side’s win over the Saints.
At the 12th minute of the first quarter during the club’s clash with St Kilda (Dawson wears No.12), a photo of the family was displayed on the big screen, with fans urged to clap and show their support.
Dawson, who was not playing but at the ground in a corporate box, was shown visibly emotional during the display, with his head in his hands.
Jaryd’s wife, Jessica Carter Dawson, posted a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram in the aftermath, saying she was “shattered into a million pieces”.
Jordan Dawson was ruled out of the game on Thursday, but attended the game on Saturday night.
He was sitting alongside his wife Millie Dawson and injured Crows defender Mark Keane.
Dawson was also shown in the corporate box before the start of the game.
The Crows started the game slow, potentially due to what has been an emotionally charged week, but worked themselves back into the contest in the second term.
The game turned into a shootout in the second half, with Adelaide pushing out to a four-goal lead, which was reeled in by the Saints.
It was ultimately decided by a single point, with Crows veteran Taylor Walker booting six goals.
Adelaide get a big win for their season, but also for their captain after what has been a difficult week.
Speaking after the game, Crows coach Matthew Nicks said he was proud of how his club handled the tribute.
“It’s not an easy one for me to talk to, to be honest,” Nicks said after the game.
“The 12-minute mark (tribute), I didn’t actually know that was going (to happen); I thought it was beautiful, just the respect that is here.
“Footy clubs are a great place to be when you have moments like these and (when) you go through tough times.
“We’re all there for the Dawson family and all the extended family. It has been a really, really tough week.
“It was great to have Jordan and Millie in the rooms pre-game tonight; that was really tough for them, but it was good to have them around the group.
“And for the guys to get up, too. He (Dawson) just wanted to see us play the way we play, and we put it out there for most of the game, so we should be proud of ourselves, and hopefully he is.”
