‘For my daughter’: Arrow’s emotional pledge to fight MND in heroic message of thanks
Jai Arrow has vowed to fight motor neurone disease for his daughter, family and fellow sufferers of the heartbreaking disease and gave thanks for the support in a touching social media post.
Arrow retired from rugby league due to a devastating motor neurone disease diagnosis, bringing the curtain down on a brilliant career which included 178 games for the Broncos, Titans and Rabbitohs and 12 Origins for Queensland.
Despite the unimaginable emotions going through his mind and the tough battle he faces ahead, Arrow was defiant and thankful in a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on the weeks since his heartbreaking diagnosis.
“Over the last few days, the amount of love and support I’ve received has honestly been overwhelming,” Arrow wrote on Instagram.
“The messages, phone calls, comments, and support from people right across the game and the wider community have meant more to me and my family than I could ever put into words.
“This isn’t the way I imagined my NRL journey coming to an end, but I’m incredibly grateful for the career I’ve had and for every single person who has been a part of it along the way.
“As a kid all I wanted to do was play rugby league and for 10 years I got to live that dream.
“To everyone who has reached out since my diagnosis – thank you. Your kindness, prayers and support have lifted us through an incredibly difficult time and we will never forget it.
“I know they say you don’t defy the odds with this disease, but I am committed to doing whatever it takes.
“I will fight for my daughter, I will fight for my family and friends and I will fight to inspire and give people hope who are fighting the same battle. I am ready to fight this bitch.
“Rugby League has given me so much, and I’ll always be proud to have been a part of the game.
“Thank you to the fans, my teammates, coaches, clubs, friends and family for standing by me through it all.
“I’m grateful I was part of it and clearly I’ve enjoyed myself.
“The Rugby League and its community truly are the greatest. I love you all.
“Rabbitohs #1166, Brisbane Bronco #222, Gold Coast Titan #133 and Queensland Maroon #196 Jai Arrow.”
