Danny Hewitt accused of betraying Bec’s trust for a “villain edit”

Bec details aftermath of Danny’s brutal MAFS Final Vows dumping: “It broke my heart”

MAFS Danny Bec

Danny Hewitt and Bec Zacharia’s journey on Married at First Sight was turbulent to say the least, and it all came crashing down at Final Vows.

Danny brutally cut things off at the end of the experiment after a turbulent few weeks, completely blindsiding Bec, who was convinced they’d make things work.

Now, Bec has broken her silence on the dumping, claiming that Danny had told her they were “100% leaving together” just days before Final Vows.

Speaking to Chattr, she alleged that Danny told her that he was waiting to tell her he loved her at Final Vows, adding, “I truly believed that we were leaving together.”

“It absolutely broke my heart. It shocked me, but it also made me realise that he had kept me in the experiment for three and a half months because he didn’t want to be with me. He wanted fame,” she added.

Bec said she didn’t get out of bed for six days after their break-up, and claimed that Danny completely cut off contact immediately after Final Vows.

“He refused to speak to me,” she claimed. “Danny did not ring me. He did not speak to me. I ended up ringing him. He didn’t answer. I had to message him and say, Danny, I need to speak to you.”

However, she alleged that he never got in contact with her despite her pleas, saying she never got any closure about why he ended things.

Are Bec and Danny still together?

Bec and Danny have not reconciled after MAFS and remain well and truly broken up.

Danny ended things with Bec at Final Vows after deciding things wouldn’t work between them in their time apart in the days beforehand.

While he said Bec had qualities he looked for, their conflicts during the show and her involvement in drama left him concerned for their future.

Before they spent time apart, Bec gushed about her TV husband and was optimistic about their future.

“I think Danny loves me, I think he does,” she shared, and said she needed to hear it in return.

Sadly, it was not meant to be, with Bec being left blindsided by Danny’s decision to walk away from their relationship.

Bec began her vows by explaining that she did not initially feel a spark for Danny, but her feelings grew over time.

Despite their challenges with intimacy, she said Intimacy Week was a turning point for her. She also acknowledged the impact that her involvement in drama had on their relationship.

But despite it all, she described Danny as her “best friend” and “safe space”.

“Love isn’t just about the good moments, it’s about who you choose to stand beside when things get hard,” she said.

She said seeing him with her dog and family made her realise that she did not want their love story to end. In the end, she promised to choose him every day and reiterated her love for him.

For Danny, his vows started reminiscing about their journey in the experiment, their struggles, and the drama.

While he said everything began to fall into place when he went to Adelaide, he said his joke and her comments to her alternative match during the final challenge made him question things.

He explained that her storming out after he raised his concerns reminded him that their conflict styles were different in “important discussions”.

“I’ve always said that I want to think about having kids soon, and when I think about bringing kids into the world, I want to bring kids into a stable relationship, in a stable and loving home, the same as I had when I was a child,” he explained.

He then said that it broke his heart that a “weight” had come off his shoulders when he spent time away from her, and that he considered her a “soulmate”, but only as a friend.

“Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry to do this to you. I can’t be your husband anymore,” he continued. “I know this might be hard to hear, but I think we both deserve a happy relationship and a healthier one.”

Speechless, she walked through the park crying.

“I’d have actually rather she got angry or something,” Danny vented to a producer. “The way she actually took it made it worse, because she actually took it like such a lady, like… If she had abused me and stuff… It would’ve actually made it so much easier.

“See, why couldn’t she have been like that the whole way through the experiment? I’d had stayed with her…” he continued, complaining about the other “side of her” that he saw of her.

Sadly for Bec, she did not see this coming and said she felt “blindsided” by Danny and was desperate to leave.

“Get me out of here, now!” she sobbed.

What happened at the final Commitment Ceremony?

Bec broke down in tears at the final Married At First Sight Commitment Ceremony over her relationship with Danny.

The couple faced questioning from the experts on Sunday, March 29, and Bec finally admitted that she’s been doubting Danny’s feelings for her.

Bec revealed she felt vulnerable because she had “let every wall down” and declared her love for Danny, while he “barely” complimented her.

“It kills my soul a little bit,” she confessed.

She asked Danny where the “passion” was in their relationship, admitting he never wants to hold her hand or kiss her.

“How can we live this life together if this is how it’s going to be?” Bec asked.

She gave Danny an ultimatum, telling him that she wouldn’t go to Final Vows with him if she wasn’t sure of his feelings for her.

“You do not have to tell me you love me, but I’m not going to walk down to Final Vows with someone who’s a “maybe”,’ she said.

“I’d rather be heartbroken now than heartbroken in six months’ time.”

Danny admitted he hasn’t shared his feelings because he has a “guard” up, saying his past heartbreaks have affected how he shows love now.

“I still have a bit of a guard up because last time, when it didn’t work out, it destroyed my life,” he shared.

He then vowed to show Bec how much she means to him as they both wrote stay, agreeing to make it work for another week.

“You know you mean the world to me, and this week I’ll try to prove that to you,” he added.

What happened at Homestays?

On Tuesday, March 24, the couple travelled to Adelaide to meet Bec’s family during Homestays Week, but it wasn’t all plain sailing.

Though they initially got off to a harmonious start with Bec’s loved ones, things took a turn when they reflected on things privately at the end of the day.

Bec appeared over the moon as she told Danny, “You give [my family] a sense of comfort and stability that you give me, and they can see that.”

However, Danny awkwardly responded with a joke about how Bec’s cousin “fancied” him, which didn’t land well with his on-screen wife.

“I think, obviously, because Danielle fancied me, she didn’t wanna…” he quipped.

However, Bec hit back with, “It’s like a serious moment. Sometimes we need a moment where it’s not all a joke.”

Danny was then left infuriated and insisted he was going to look bad “in the edit”, with Bec sharing her confusion about why he was more concerned about how he looked on TV than her.

“Who’s going to get crucified in the edit? Thanks, Bec,” he snapped.

“In the edit? What are you talking about? This is real life,” she responded.

Danny argued that Bec was no stranger to making a bad joke, referring to her awkward comment about Rachel and Steven at the couple’s retreat, which caused a huge row.

Danny even went as far as to say Bec’s reaction to his ill-timed joke was making him rethink whether he wanted to move to Adelaide to be with her.

“If she can just turn on me like that, I’m not sure if I’d want to move here, and I was very open to the idea,” he fumed.

Did Danny tell Bec that he loved her?

Bec revealed she was in love with Danny at the seventh Commitment Ceremony, but Danny didn’t say it back.

Things then became more awkward when Danny was asked if he could see himself falling in love with her during Feedback Week, with the groom replying, “Potentially, yes, I assume so.”

His uncertain answer was the topic of much conversation at the Commitment Ceremony on Sunday, March 22, with the experts putting the groom under the spotlight.

Bec shared her upset over his response, admitting, “I thought he would have said, ‘I’m not there yet, but yes’.”

When asked why he was hesitant in his answer, he awkwardly said, “I think I misinterpreted the question.”

However, expert John Aiken hit back with, “It’s a pretty black-and-white question.”

“I don’t think saying ‘yes, I can 100 per cent see myself fall in love with you’ would be the right thing to say because it’s almost making a promise,” Danny clarified.

“I don’t think you can make that promise before you’re in love with someone.”

Danny then admitted he answered the question “shockingly”, before the experts remarked that he seemed uncomfortable.

He then said he only attends the Commitment Ceremonies for Bec’s sake, with the experts insisting that they are as beneficial for him as well.

The groom looked even more uncomfortable when Bec revealed that Danny had asked her to be his girlfriend, with the Brit saying he did so to make her happy.

Mel Schilling urged him to tell Bec how he really feels in the next week, with Danny appearing uncomfortable with the feedback.

They both wrote stay, but the groom returned to the group looking awkward after the grilling.

What happened at the sixth Dinner Party?

Adding to their relationship woes, Danny and Bec clashed at the sixth Dinner Party over the bride’s drama with the other women.

Bec was embroiled in drama, most notably with her arch rival, Gia Fleur, from the start of the experiment, and Danny had had enough.

Dinner party scenes from Wednesday, March 18, once again saw Bec go head-to-head with Gia in a war of words.

Bec also came under fire for calling Alissa Fay a string of foul-mouthed insults in explosive text messages, which were shared by Juliette Chae upon her exit.

The latest tension put a huge strain on Bec and Danny’s relationship, with the groom finally admitting he was fed up with the drama, after standing by his wife’s side for weeks.

“I’m a bit ashamed at Bec, to be honest,” he confessed to camera.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m not going to candy-coat it. I’m frustrated, because I know that’s not who Bec is as a person.”

At the Dinner Party, Danny admitted he didn’t come on the show for “drama” but “love” and shared his desire for them to focus on their own relationship.

“We’re in an experiment with vicious vipers around,” Bec argued, before saying he was throwing her “under the bus”, which he denied.

“I want us to have a really good relationship,” Danny said.

Bec then accused him of implying that their relationship wasn’t already good, prompting him to reply, “Don’t be sassy with me.”

When she told him to be “wary” about what he says, he replied, “I want you to be wary about what you text people,” referring to her messages about Alissa.

Bec continued to argue that she had sent them two months earlier, with an irritated Danny saying, “I don’t care if it was 10 years ago!”

Bec then stormed out of the dinner party in tears, while Danny declined to follow her.

What happened at the fifth Commitment Ceremony?

During the fifth commitment ceremony, Bec spoke about the fallout from the couple’s retreat.

“I’m scared that my feelings for Daniel are stronger than his are for me,” she shared, adding that she couldn’t imagine her life without him.

When put on the spot, Danny revealed that he didn’t think of their life beyond the experiment, but he still cared about her.

Then it was Bec’s turn to be pressed about her feelings. After saying they were strong, she told Danny that she loved him, which garnered applause from the rest of the group.

“I don’t even know what to say to that,” he shared, with Bec assuring him that he didn’t have to respond.

When pressed, he said it made him happy to hear that, but away from his wife, he shared his true feelings.

“Put the pressure on me, why don’t you?” he laughed in a piece to the camera.

“I didn’t know Bec was going to come out with that. You’re in front of the whole group of experts, the group, yeah, put me on the spot a little bit, but that went well. I don’t think you should tell someone you love them unless you mean it.”

At the end of that ceremony, they both wrote stay.

The claim that shook their marriage

Bec and Danny’s marriage was rocked by Gia’s allegation that he said she was “his type” off-camera during a cast night out.

Brook shocked the table by revealing the rumour at the Dinner Party, with Bec confused over whether it was true.

Danny was left enraged that Bec believed the rumour and said he wanted a “ride or die” who trusted him, and the couple spent the night apart.

The couple had a tense morning where Danny once again shared his annoyance that she hadn’t trusted him, and she burst into tears on their balcony.

She was equally as emotional when she took to the couch for the Commitment Ceremony on Sunday, February 22, with fans left concerned for her wellbeing.

Despite the rocky patch for the couple, both Danny and Bec committed to staying in the experiment for another week.

Did Danny call Gia “his type”?

Bec and Danny’s progress during Intimacy Week came crashing down when Brook said she had dirt on Danny.

When she asked Gia, she claimed that over the weekend, Bec’s husband told her that she was more of his physical type.

“I feel sick,” Bec said after hearing it. For the Adelaide local, it brought up past insecurities when she accused him of having a wandering eye and when she told Rebecca that she thought Gia was Danny’s physical preference at the first dinner party.

Even though she didn’t trust Gia, her rocky start with her husband made her question things.

When she asked Danny, he vehemently denied it and dismissed her being upset and frustrated.

“You know I’ve got so much love for you,” Danny insisted.

Even though Gia and Brook insisted they had text messages, Bec did not want a bar of it and slammed her hand on the table, and then walked away.

Despite the other brides going to comfort her and telling her not to believe it, she was reeling.

“Gia and Brook have definitely set out to rock my relationship, and they are succeeding,” she shared sadly. “I feel nervous about how this is gonna go for Danny and I now, because I don’t know who’s telling the truth.”

“I hope he doesn’t make me look like a fool.”

Even though he went to comfort her, he shared his frustration and offence that she questioned him.

She then got up and left in tears.

Revelations Week

Bec and Danny were upfront about their challenges during Revelations Week.

During the first Commitment Ceremony, Bec explained that she felt rejected after Danny became distant, citing a lack of chemistry following their first intimate encounter.

While the issue has come up several times for the couple, Danny explained that things changed during Revelations Week, after Bec became upset about it.

That moment lit a “fire” in him, and they both shared that things had become “so much better”.

“It’s been transformative for us this week,” she shared. “I just have to remember that patience is key with intimacy, and also, everyone works at a different pace.”

While Melissa Schilling praised Bec’s vulnerability and honesty, she encouraged Danny to do the same.

At the time, they both revealed they would stay.

Their rapid revelations task started well when they both stated three things they appreciated about one another, and when Danny revealed he felt protective of her since their wedding.

Things took a turn, however, when the task focused on intimacy, specifically when Danny said he asked to be matched with someone with whom he experienced sexual chemistry, but didn’t get that.

“It’s just really confronting,” Bed tearfully shared in a confessional, and asked what else could be done to improve that side of their relationship.

While Danny explained it was something that was there or wasn’t, Bec said there had been a lack of effort.

Even though Danny tried to reassure her by saying that he wanted to form a strong bond with her and work on that, she still wasn’t convinced.

“You need to be best mates with your partner, but you need to put effort into making it a romantic relationship,” Bec shared.

But Bec’s tearful confession about her fears of their relationship not working sparked a desire in Danny to change.

When the infamous photo-ranking task came around, tension was in the air.

After Bec ranked her husband first, Danny made a bold declaration of loyalty to his wife.

“When I’m in a relationship, I have my blinkers on,” he explained after he opened the balcony door.

“And I only look at one woman,” he continued before putting her photo down and then throwing the other photos from the balcony.

“I only look at one woman,” he stated.

A challenging honeymoon

Sarks flew after their wedding, and they were intimate on the first night of their honeymoon.

However, Danny then dropped the bombshell that he didn’t feel any chemistry between them.

After Bec sensed Danny pulling back from her, she spoke to him about their relationship, which led to him revealing he viewed her more as a “friend”.

Through tears, Bec said in a confessional, “It’s just really hard to face that, feeling undesired. That’s how I feel, I feel unattractive, I don’t want to feel that way.”

Bec has been open about her struggles with her body image and weight loss journey, admitting that Danny’s remarks saw her take a “step back” in her self-love.

During their time away, Bec shockingly accused Danny of staring at another girl “all day” as things look set to go from bad to worse for the couple.

What happened at Bec and Danny’s wedding?

The couple tied the knot at first sight on Wednesday, February 4, but Bec, 35, was left in floods of tears during the vows.

She was left questioning Danny’s intentions after he made mention of going to prison in his vows and mentioned being the “wild one” when he was younger.

“I’m looking for a Bonnie and Clyde type of love. With that being said, if I ever get locked up in prison, I’d like you to bail me out,” he quipped in his speech.

While Danny’s friends erupted into laughter, Bec was left looking unimpressed and admitted that she didn’t want to be with a party boy.

“Um, he seems like a really lovely guy, but I’m a bit nervous to be honest with you,” she said to the camera.

“He made mention in his vows of ‘if he gets arrested’, I know I can be quite wild and fun, but I really want to settle down, so it makes me worry. I want to be matched with someone who is serious about being with their forever person, not someone that’s out, getting hammered, acting a fool to the point of getting arrested.”

“I don’t think I’m a 10/10 by any means, at all, but I definitely walk through life now feeling I’m beautiful, and I’ve never felt beautiful before.”

“I’ve given up everything, everything, everything, and you’re making mention of getting arrested in your vows? F*** that man,” she added.

In another awkward moment, Bec was shocked after discovering Danny’s best man was Will Parfitt, a Channing Tatum lookalike and stripper.

“Have you seen that stripper that’s making heaps of money?” she asked him after remarking that he looked like Channing Tatum, prompting him to confirm that it was him.

“You slept with my friend the other night,” she then revealed. “I heard you didn’t ring her after, so.”

Will was left scrambling after the grilling, and Bec admitted that it made her question Danny’s intentions, imagining he went out partying every weekend with Will, calling it “bulls***”.

She was left in floods of tears after the wedding as she questioned whether Danny, was going to be her perfect match.

However, things got better at their reception after they spent more time together, and he spoke kindly to her family and friends.

“I feel bad, I thought you were a party animal, but you’ve really changed my mind, so I’m sorry,” she confessed.
