For Jett Kenny and Lily Brown, one wedding was never quite the whole story.

Three months after quietly becoming husband and wife in Brisbane, the couple returned to Italy for a second celebration — this time surrounded by family and friends in the breathtaking Sicilian town of Taormina.

And for Jett’s mother, Lisa Curry, the journey to the wedding was almost an adventure in itself.

“The wedding adventure begins”

Lisa gave followers a glimpse behind the scenes as the family made their way to Sicily for four days of celebrations for Jett and Lily.

Their journey began before sunrise. Lisa revealed they were woken at 4am by an earth tremor in Gozo before leaving just 30 minutes later to begin a long journey towards Sicily.

From Gozo, they travelled by ferry to Valletta and then onwards to Pozzallo, before facing another two-hour drive through the heat.

The final leg was made in what Lisa affectionately described as a “little cute car” with bicycle-style wheels, with three people and enough luggage for a week in Sicily.

“Cars were passing us like we were standing still,” she recalled, admitting that by the end of the journey, all she wanted was to arrive in Taormina safely.

They eventually made it — and Lisa’s mood quickly changed.

The family’s accommodation was just a minute from the beach, and she was delighted to be reunited with her children before everyone gathered for a welcome dinner.

After such a chaotic start, the wedding adventure had officially begun.

From a quiet Brisbane ceremony to Italy

Jett, 31, and Lily, 28, had already become legally married in Brisbane in June.

Their first wedding was deliberately understated. Lily chose an elegant ivory skirt and matching jacket rather than a traditional bridal gown, while Jett wore a black suit.

The couple announced the marriage simply with the words “Mr & Mrs Kenny”.

Lisa was among those celebrating the moment, describing her son’s vows as “next level romantic and incredibly beautiful”.

There was also a deeply practical reason for keeping that first ceremony close to home.

According to a source quoted by Woman’s Day, some of Jett’s closest friends from his surf club and school could not easily afford to travel overseas for a destination wedding, particularly those with young families.

The Brisbane ceremony therefore gave the people who had known Jett for years the chance to be there when he officially married Lily.

The family celebrations continued afterwards with a meal at SK Steak & Oyster in Brisbane, one of Lily’s favourite restaurants.

It was a very different kind of wedding from what was to come.

Then came Taormina

In early September, Jett and Lily returned to Italy for their second wedding ceremony.

This time, the setting could hardly have been more different.

The couple exchanged vows in Taormina, a spectacular hilltop town in Sicily, with the historic Italian surroundings becoming part of the celebration.

Lily stepped into a traditional ivory wedding gown with delicate straps, a long flowing train and a veil, completing the look with gold and pearl earrings.

Jett wore a relaxed suit with a white shirt and cream flowers pinned to his lapel, matching the tones of Lily’s bouquet.

Photographs from the day showed the newlyweds embracing and sharing kisses against Taormina’s historic architecture.

For a couple who had already said “I do” in Brisbane, the Italian ceremony became something more than simply repeating the same moment.

It gave their wider circle the chance to celebrate with them — and brought their story back to the country where another important chapter had begun.

A love story that began unexpectedly

Jett and Lily first became romantically linked in 2022, after initially knowing each other as friends.

Their relationship had an unusual beginning. Jett had originally approached Lily for advice about a dating situation, but the friendship eventually developed into something more.

They made their relationship public in December 2022 and later appeared together on The Amazing Race Australia.

Then, during a European holiday in 2025, their relationship reached another turning point.

Lily revealed her engagement ring in a playful photograph of the pair sharing spaghetti at a restaurant, accompanied by the words “Now THAT’S Amore”.

She later described being so overwhelmed by the proposal that she initially struggled to process what was happening, saying it took her around two minutes to say yes.

For a couple whose relationship had begun almost unexpectedly, the engagement became the beginning of another new chapter.

Italy had already been part of their story

There is something particularly fitting about the couple choosing Italy for their second wedding.

Their engagement had been announced during a European trip the previous year, and the Italian setting therefore carried a connection to one of the most important moments in their relationship.

Returning to Italy for the wedding meant the country was no longer simply the backdrop to an engagement.

It became part of their family story.

And Lisa’s photographs from the journey captured that beautifully — not just the polished wedding images, but the long travel day, the exhaustion, the tiny car, the luggage, the welcome dinner and the excitement of having everyone together again.

For Lisa Curry, it was about more than a wedding

For Lisa, watching Jett marry Lily comes after a period in which family life has carried both extraordinary happiness and profound grief.

Jett is Lisa’s son with former Ironman champion Grant Kenny. The former couple also share children Morgan and Jaimi, and the family has endured the loss of Jaimi, who died in 2020. Lisa later married Mark Tabone in 2018.

That history gives family milestones a particular emotional weight.

So amid the photographs from Sicily, the beautiful dress and the romantic scenes in Taormina, there was another image emerging quietly in Lisa’s own words: a mother travelling across the world to watch her son begin married life.

The journey may have started at 4am with an earth tremor, two ferry trips and a tiny car packed with people and luggage.

But eventually, they arrived.

And in Taormina, surrounded by the people they love, Jett and Lily had their second “I do” — turning a wedding that began quietly in Brisbane into a four-day family celebration in Italy.

For Lisa, perhaps the most meaningful part was never the setting.
