Sarah Abo has confirmed she will leave Nine and step down from her role as co-host of Today at the end of 2026, bringing an important chapter of her television career to a close.
After three years waking up alongside Australians each morning, Sarah leaves the breakfast program at a time when both her professional and personal life are entering a new phase.
Her decision comes after welcoming her first child, son Sonny, with husband Cyrus Moran earlier this year.
“Without you, there is no Today show”
In announcing her departure, Sarah reflected on the viewers who had welcomed her into their homes each morning.
“Words can’t express how grateful I am to our viewers for letting me into your homes to be part of your morning routine,” she said.
“Without you, there is no Today show.”
Her message also looked back on the years she spent reporting for Nine, from 60 Minutes to Today, travelling around the world and meeting people from all walks of life.
A new chapter with Sonny
Sarah’s departure comes as motherhood begins a very different chapter in her life.
She welcomed baby Sonny in July after bringing forward her maternity leave following what she described at the time as a “curveball”. She later reunited with the Today team before confirming that her time at Nine would ultimately come to an end.
Reflecting on the change, Sarah said motherhood had “heralded a new chapter” — a line that now carries particular significance as she prepares to step away from the network.
From 60 Minutes to Today
Sarah joined Nine in 2019 as a reporter on 60 Minutes, having previously worked across SBS and Network Ten and built a career covering major stories in Australia and overseas.
In 2023, she made the move from long-form current affairs to breakfast television, joining Today after Ally Langdon moved to A Current Affair.
The transition brought a different rhythm, with Sarah becoming one of the familiar faces greeting viewers at the start of each day.
“The team feels like family”
Nine praised Sarah for the warmth, energy and journalism she brought to the program, while highlighting the skill required to front hours of live television each morning.
Sarah, meanwhile, paid tribute to the people she had worked alongside.
“It takes a special kind of crazy to wake up at the hours we do but it’s so much easier when the team feels like family,” she said. “I’ll miss you all dearly.”
A changing Today lineup
Sarah’s announcement comes during a period of significant change for Today.
Tim Davies is also preparing to leave the program after seven years, with his final weather forecast scheduled for September 18. His departure follows more than 900 flights across his time with the show.
Nine has confirmed that its Today lineup for 2027 will be announced in due course.For Sarah, however, the next chapter appears to be less about what she is leaving behind and more about where life takes her from here.
