Karl Stefanovic’s sudden disappearance from his podcast has raised plenty of questions. Now, a new twist has emerged — and it involves an extraordinary offer from his longtime friend Kyle Sandilands.
Sandilands has revealed that Stefanovic could potentially join his new independent media venture, with a proposed $2 million deal to host a weekday drive-time program.

Where has Karl Stefanovic gone?
The Karl Stefanovic Show was designed to run five days a week, but new episodes have not appeared since August 24.
The unexplained pause quickly caught the attention of listeners, particularly because Stefanovic had been building the podcast as his major independent media project following his departure from Nine and ARN.
News.com.au previously contacted Stefanovic, his business partner Keshnee Kemp and his longtime manager Sharon Finnigan seeking answers about the show’s sudden absence.
None publicly explained what was happening at the time.
The uncertainty has only added to speculation about what comes next for the former Today host.
Kyle Sandilands finally gets an answer
While discussing Stefanovic’s absence on Kyle Sandilands Live, Sandilands revealed that he had actually contacted his old friend himself.
According to Sandilands, he texted Stefanovic asking where he was.
Stefanovic allegedly replied that he was away on holiday with his wife and would call Sandilands once he returned.
That appeared to offer one explanation for his absence — but Sandilands then revealed something much more intriguing.
The $2 million offer
Sandilands said he and Stefanovic had privately discussed the possibility of working together several weeks earlier.
His idea was straightforward: bring Stefanovic onto the Kyle Sandilands Live Network to host an afternoon drive program from Monday to Friday.
Sandilands said he asked Stefanovic whether he would take the job for $2 million.
And according to Kyle, Stefanovic’s response was immediate.
He claimed Karl said he would “sign right now”.
There was one problem, however: Sandilands said he did not even have a pen — and stressed that the proposal was only an idea at that stage.
So, despite the headline-making figure, Stefanovic has not signed a $2 million contract with Sandilands.
A very different path after Nine
The potential offer comes at a significant point in Stefanovic’s career.
The former Today host lost his Channel Nine position in June after the network ended his contract. His ARN radio role also came to an end shortly afterwards.
That left Stefanovic turning his attention to his own podcast, which had been positioned as a new chapter outside Australia’s traditional media networks.
Sources previously told News.com.au that Stefanovic had been looking at private financial backing as he worked to build the podcast into a sustainable business.
The show’s sudden hiatus therefore carries more weight than a simple break from recording.
The bigger plan behind Kyle’s new network
For Sandilands, bringing Stefanovic into the fold would fit with a much larger ambition.
His new independent venture is intended to grow beyond a single show and eventually operate more like a radio and media network, with drive programming, news and other original content.
Sandilands has also indicated that he is interested in adding other established Australian broadcasting names to the project.
Stefanovic would therefore represent a significant addition — particularly given the pair’s long friendship and history in Australian media.
It isn’t the first time Karl and Kyle have been linked
Interestingly, this is not the first time the possibility of a Kyle-and-Karl collaboration has surfaced.
In June, domains including KyleandKarl.com.au and KarlandKyle.com.au were registered by a company connected to Sandilands.
For a moment, the registrations appeared to suggest that a joint project could be coming.
But Kyle’s longtime manager and collaborator Bruno Bouchet later revealed that he had registered the domains largely as a joke after a journalist asked him about the possibility of a Kyle-and-Karl show.
Bouchet said it had been “the best $7” he had spent.
This time, however, the situation is slightly different.
The domains may have been a joke, but Sandilands has now publicly said he has actually discussed a potential role with Stefanovic — and put a $2 million figure on the table.
What happens next for Karl?
For now, there are still more questions than answers.
Stefanovic’s podcast remains on hiatus, while a separate report has since pointed to a business dispute involving his podcast company and co-founder Keshnee Kemp. Sources say Stefanovic has been reconsidering the ownership structure of the business, with the disagreement potentially heading towards a legal confrontation.
Against that backdrop, Sandilands’ offer could prove to be more than just an entertaining on-air suggestion.
But for now, it remains exactly that: an offer that has been floated, not a deal that has been signed.
And with Karl Stefanovic yet to publicly explain what comes next for his podcast empire, the next move may be one of the more closely watched chapters of his career.
