“I wasn’t ready to let go”: Sylvia Jeffreys’ past words resurface as she prepares for a new chapter after a difficult journey

Almost five years before Sylvia Jeffreys announced that her family was growing once again, the Today Extra presenter made a deeply personal admission about a part of her motherhood journey she simply wasn’t ready to leave behind.

Now, as Sylvia and husband Peter Stefanovic prepare to welcome their third child — a baby girl — those quiet words from 2021 carry a very different emotional weight.

A motherhood journey that began with uncertainty

Sylvia and Peter welcomed their first son, Oscar, in February 2020 after undergoing IVF.

At the time, Sylvia was open about the challenges involved in starting their family, making Oscar’s arrival an especially meaningful moment for the couple.

But their path to becoming a family of four took an unexpected turn.

Just months after Oscar was born, Sylvia became pregnant naturally with their second son, Henry, who arrived in April 2021.

The couple had gone from the uncertainty of IVF to suddenly preparing to welcome another baby — something Sylvia described with enormous gratitude.

The part of her IVF journey she wasn’t ready to leave behind

Later in 2021, Sylvia spoke to 9Honey Parenting about the couple’s experience with IVF and whether they might one day have another child.

At the time, there was still one very personal decision sitting quietly in the background.

The couple had embryos remaining from their IVF journey.

And Sylvia wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them.

“We’ll hold on to them for now,” she said, adding that she was “not ready to let go of those little embryos just yet.”

It was a simple, deeply personal admission at the time — one that reflected how complicated the emotions surrounding fertility and parenthood can be.

Almost five years later, everything has changed

Now, those words have resurfaced following Sylvia and Peter’s announcement that they are expecting their third child.

The couple shared the happy news with their two sons, Oscar and Henry, already embracing their new roles as big brothers.

And there was another beautiful surprise.

Their next baby will be a girl.

Sylvia revealed that Oscar was the one who got to announce the baby’s sex, with the family celebrating the moment together.

Oh baby… number 3 is on the way and the boys are already taking their big bro duties seriously,” Sylvia wrote.

She jokingly added that their daughter would need to be comfortable with plenty of football merchandise and hand-me-downs.

A different chapter — but one that carries the past with it

There is no public confirmation that Sylvia’s current pregnancy is connected to the embryos she spoke about in 2021, so the two should not be presented as directly linked.

But the old words still offer a poignant glimpse into the emotional journey that preceded this latest piece of family news.

Back then, Sylvia was speaking about something she wasn’t ready to let go of.

Today, she is preparing to hold a daughter in her arms — while Oscar and Henry get ready to welcome their little sister.

Sometimes, the most meaningful part of a family’s story isn’t a single moment, but the distance between what once felt uncertain and the happiness that eventually arrives.
