A Daughter’s Heartfelt Promise
When journalist and author Cass Thorburn revealed she had been diagnosed with triple-negative occult breast cancer, the news came as a devastating shock to those who know and love her.
Among the first to publicly rally around her was her daughter, Willow Stefanovic, who shared a simple yet deeply moving message beneath her mother’s announcement.
“Love you Mum, you are so strong and will get through this.”
Though only a few words, they captured the determination, hope and unwavering love that would soon shape Willow’s next life-changing decision.
Leaving London to Be by Her Mother’s Side
Just a month after Cass shared her diagnosis, Willow made a remarkable choice.
Having been studying Fashion Journalism at the London College of Fashion since 2023, the 21-year-old returned to Australia to support her mother as she undergoes an intensive course of chemotherapy.
According to Woman’s Day, Willow and Cass had originally planned to celebrate the year very differently.
The pair had been looking forward to taking a road trip across the United Kingdom before Cass received the life-altering diagnosis that changed everything.
Instead, with the support of both her parents, Willow decided there was only one place she wanted to be.
She flew home so she could spend precious time with her mum during one of the most difficult chapters of their lives.
Family Comes Together When It Matters Most
Willow’s return has allowed her to reunite not only with Cass, but also with her brothers Jackson and River, who are all standing beside their mother throughout her treatment.
Despite Karl Stefanovic and Cass Thorburn ending their 21-year marriage almost a decade ago, their children have maintained close relationships with both parents.
Reports suggest Karl also helped Willow overcome unexpected travel difficulties when conflict in the Middle East disrupted international flights, ensuring she could safely make it home in time for her mother’s treatment and to quietly celebrate her 21st birthday with family.
