Sport Confidential: Bec Judd roast steals the spotlight as Tony Jones celebrates 40 years at Nine
Bec Judd has delivered a playful dig at Tony Jones’ infamous on-air near-kiss as the veteran sports presenter celebrates 40 years at Channel Nine.
Bec Judd has reflected on the near-miss kiss attempt from Tony Jones during her final night on the news 10 years ago.

Footage of the incident, when he forgot the flowers but tried to plant a kiss on Judd’s cheek before she swiftly turned away, has haunted Jones ever since.
“You are an icon,’’ Judd said.
“It was wonderful to work with you so many years ago. And you taught me so much about live TV. So Chompers, happy anniversary on your 40 years at Nine. Unlike that fateful night when you forgot my flowers so all you had to offer was a kiss… I ain’t doing that, I remembered the flowers. Congratulations, enjoy.”

Jones was presented with a jacket that had a gold number 40 on the back as his colleagues marked the occasion on Tuesday. He’s also having some drinks with friends and said all, including defector Tom Morris, were welcome.
“I don’t hold grudges,’’ Jones said. “It might be a bit like the Gather Round function where he doesn’t actually have an invite but if he wants to come, absolutely. It’s an open door.”
Another game, another tattoo bet for Gorringe
Dan Gorringe has done it again, agreeing to a tattoo bet.
If Carlton get within five goals of Brisbane this week he’ll get a picture of Brendan Fevola in a Lions jumper tattooed on his body.
And if Brisbane win by under five goals Fevola will get a Dan Does Footy tattoo.
“It’s early, he’s got me,’’ Gorringe said on the Fifi, Fev and Nick show.
It was only a few weeks ago that Gorringe got a big Collingwood emblem tattooed on his leg after losing a bet with Nick Daicos when the Magpies beat the Blues.

Gorringe has headed up DoorDash’s Mother’s Day campaign, leading a humorous boot camp with some other famous dads, including Peter Hellier, Sam Thaiday, Josh Miller, Jack Crisp and Peter Daicos, about what gifts to give the women and mums in their lives.
Gorringe’s wife Ana won’t be impressed by another tattoo bet.
“She’s pretty numb to it now,’’ he said. “She was mortified by how big the Collingwood tattoo was.”
‘Sheezy Ball’: Kane Cornes made me break down
Harry Sheezel has opened up about the effect Kane Cornes’ “Sheezy Ball” criticism had on him last year, revealing he broke down in the aftermath.
The North Melbourne star said he’s learned from it and laughs now, but the storm surrounding the stinging comments took a toll.
“When it first came out I think it was Kane on one of those Channel 7 shows (The Agenda Setters), it hit me pretty hard,” Sheezel said on the Ausmerican Aces podcast.
“I wasn’t as well equipped to deal with that stuff at the time. I was still 20 years-old and cared a lot about my perception in the public and the footy media.
“It wasn’t necessarily what he said; it was more how quickly it blew up and how everyone was talking about it. And how then people started responding to Kane and people were fighting about it and it just became this whole big thing.”

The critical comments were part of the reason North Melbourne banned Cornes from their rooms and interviews last year.
Sheezel said the inference that he got cheap and easy possessions had been something he identified.
“The facts of it (were) I was getting a bit of cheap ball and not impacting as much, which is probably true,” he said.
“I agree I probably sometimes get caught up in not impacting the game as much as I can with the touches that I get, which is fair enough, but I think sometimes I get caught up in the role that I’m playing.
“And I’m always looking at ways to impact the game more with my touches.
“I’m my harshest critic so if someone else is saying something about my game I’ve probably already thought it and seen it and tried to improve it.
“So that Kane stuff did hit me hard,” Sheezel said.

Sheezel continued: “My family were really good and everyone around me, my friends and the club were so supportive about it.
“I remember breaking down that night. My old man came around and supported me. It was a tough time but I learnt so many valuable lessons about how to deal with that stuff now. I look back and laugh at it.
“I haven’t seen Kane, but I don’t mind ‘Sheezy’ now, it’s pretty funny. Take the piss out of it and a few of the boys call me ‘Sheezy Ball’ now so it’s a good laugh.”
Sheezel earnt high praise from Geelong coach Chris Scott after the weekend’s match, with Cornes praising him and coach Alastair Clarkson for improving his game. Perhaps just a little, he was taking credit too.
The great Carlton ambush?
Jack Riewoldt got a blunt response from Nathan Buckley during On The Couch when the host asked if he’d entertain the Carlton job if it came up.
“Haven’t even thought about it,” Buckley said.
And then Riewoldt and Jordan Lewis looked at each other, with Lewis saying, “There’s your answer,” before they moved on.
Tim Watson wondered how that happened on SEN breakfast Tuesday morning.
“I can’t work out how that can happen because, obviously, they meet before the show and they discuss things that they’re going to ask each other,” Watson said.
“Nathan, he wouldn’t have been ambushed. He would have been given a heads up about the fact that Jack was going to ask him that question, wouldn’t he?”

Watson’s co-host Garry Lyon, suggested Buckley simply didn’t want to entertain it given he is coaching at Geelong, but Watson said Riewoldt should have backed up.
“Jack should have had a follow-up ready,” Watson said.
“He should have said, well, look, maybe you haven’t thought about it, but what if you do miss out on the Tasmanian job? Would you think about it there?
“The art of it is to back up again, isn’t it? To say, well, I know you haven’t thought about it, but now I’ve asked you, have you thought about it?”
‘I love Cumming’: King’s gaffe sparks apology
David King received an apology from Nathan Brown after his on-air faux pas didn’t make it into Sunday’s edition of Media-Ocre on the Sunday Footy Show.
King’s slip of the tongue on Fox Footy went viral on Saturday night after he was talking about the Tigers and said “I love Cumming”.
It was in reference to young player Sam Cumming but King’s co-hosts Jack Riewoldt and Kath Loughnan lost it during the ad break.

“She was a strong Saturday night,’’ King said on SEN breakfast Monday morning.
“It doesn’t sound great on the short. I’ve only heard it 4,000 times. Anyone out there who doesn’t think I’ve seen it, I’ve seen it, trust me.
“I had no idea. My god, Kath and Jack hit the deck in a heartbeat; that little red light went off and they went crazy. I thought, what’s happened here, what have I said?
“The funny thing is I’ve never got an apology. I got an apology text from Nathan Brown for leaving me out of Media-Ocre.
“I don’t know how that happened. Something happened and they couldn’t quite get it up.
“I’ve never got an apology for not being a major part of it, which was a nice sign. This is good, thank you Nathan.”

King’s co-host Kane Cornes was loving the expansion of the ‘King Files’.
“I did see Jack’s face, very funny, maybe his best moment in media so far to hold it in and not laugh,’’ he said. “I thought that was hilarious.”
But Cornes wasn’t so kind to Brown, saying the bulk of his Media-Ocre segment was having a crack at Channel 7 — pointing out he’s part of the network courtesy of his work for Triple M.
“He’s very brave, is all I will say,’’ Cornes said.
“Considering he works for Channel 7 now, there’s eyeballs all over this. He’s either incredibly stupid or very brave. I’ll give him the credit that he’s brave and not stupid.
“Channel 7 and Triple M have merged and are one company and are supposed to be supporting each other. It’s a watch.”
Brendan’s big benchmark
Brendan Fevola made the trip to Yarrawonga on the weekend where his own redemption story began.
The former footy star is keen to put the boots on again to achieve a rare milestone — 1000 goals in local footy.
“I need 32 more goals to get there which is not that easy when you’re 45,’’ Fevola said.
“I’m game ready though and it’s a good stat, something I’d love to achieve.”

Fevola went on a mission to win over kombucha sceptics with his road trip, taking to the streets with Remedy Drinks on the ‘Booch Bus’ to turn the haters into believers.
He also hit Shepparton and Bendigo.
“I know the locals are pretty set when it comes to their beverage choices, but they might just be surprised,’’ Fevola said.
