Gia Fleur’s hidden fight for her daughter’s life with rare condition

One MAFS bride. A hidden fight for her daughter’s life. And a rare condition most people have never heard of. Gia Fleur’s story is about to shock you.

Married at First Sight Australia bride Gia Fleur has spoken out about her daughter’s heart-breaking health battle.

The 36-year-old single mum has praised her young daughter Willa throughout the reality programme. However, the TV star recently disclosed that her public profile had a detrimental effect on her child.

In an interview with New Idea, Gia revealed that Willa faced unkind remarks at school due to her mother’scontroversial stint on MAFS.

The bride also shared that Willa became critically unwell with Kawasaki disease aged just six. The uncommon illness causes inflammation of blood vessels and can result in cardiac complications without prompt treatment.

“I’d never heard of it,” Gia told the Australian publication. “It was really shocking when I found out that’s what she had,” reports OK!.

Gia disclosed that Willa displayed flu-like symptoms and was too young to articulate what was troubling her. She was first diagnosed with a respiratory infection, though her health deteriorated to bacterial pneumonia.

Convinced her daughter was quietly struggling, Gia admitted her to hospital, which proved to be the correct decision.

She remembered: “They rushed her straight in when they found out her heart rate was extremely high – about 192 beats per minute. Suddenly, there were doctors everywhere.”

The youngster was subsequently diagnosed with Kawasaki disease following “countless tests”. Gia has expressed relief at trusting her maternal instincts, stating: “You’ve got to advocate for your child hard – and I was.

“I knew it wasn’t just a normal flu.”

After receiving the diagnosis, Willa required routine monitoring over a two-year period due to a coronary artery dilation resulting from her treatment. Gia has since reassured everyone that “she’s now great”.

The Married at First Sight star entrusted her daughter to her mother’s care for several months while shooting the current series. She wed groom Scott McCristal at the start of the programme, with the pair seemingly amongst the most solid partnerships.

Nevertheless, their union is poised to encounter difficulties that British audiences will witness in forthcoming episodes.
