MAFS Danny Hewitt refuses to say ‘I love you’

Married At First Sight groom Danny Hewitt felt the heat during Sunday night’s episode, after he was put on the spot about whether he was falling in love with his wife Bec Zacharia.

The pair were appearing at a Commitment Ceremony, when Bec, 35, bluntly told the experts she was taken aback after Danny, 34, hesitated to tell her that he ‘loved’ her during a recent encounter.

‘I told Danny that I’m in love with him, at the last Commitment Ceremony. It’s how I feel, so I am going to say it, and I meant it,’ Bec began.

‘But when we did the questions, there was one which said, “Can you see yourself falling in love with me?” Danny didn’t say no, but he sort of ummed and ahhed a little bit. I just spiralled.’

Bec added she was extremely hurt by Danny’s non-committal response to the make-or-break question.

‘He said, “Potentially yes, I assume so.” I was upset, hurt and kind of embarrassed. I just thought he would be a little bit further along than that. I’m in love, but he’s not there yet.’

The experts then put Danny on the spot by bluntly asking him why he gave such a non-committal answer.

‘I sometimes struggle with the questions, I think I misinterpreted it. If I give Bec my word on something, I am always going to stand by that. I didn’t think that giving Bec a “Yes, I am going to 100% fall in love with you” was right, because it is almost making a promise before you are in love,’ he said.

Danny then admitted that he answered the question ‘shockingly,’ and that it was a huge mistake as he regretted the hurt his words had caused.

‘I made a mistake,’ he said, but stopped short of confessing that their feelings of love were mutual.

The pair agreed to work at better communicating their feelings and both wrote Stay, agreeing to work on their relationship for another week.

It comes after Bec spoke out after her dramatic walkout during Wednesday night’s fiery dinner party.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Bec insisted she was pushed to breaking point and left feeling ‘thrown to the wolves’ by Danny.

The controversial bride admitted she regrets some of her behaviour on the show – but says viewers are not seeing the full picture.

‘I feel a little bit misunderstood,’ Bec said.

‘I understand that there’s certain things I’ve done that aren’t good. But at the same time, I feel like by that point everything was just on top of me.

‘I just felt like I hadn’t had a break since the wedding day, I’ve copped it completely.’

Bec shocked viewers when she stormed out of the dinner party, telling producers she wanted out of the experiment, but insists she never intended to walk away for good.

‘I wasn’t running away from the experiment – I was running away from the dinner party,’ she explained.

‘I just had enough. I needed space, I needed to breathe.’

The moment came after Danny brutally told producers he felt ‘ashamed’ of his bride – a comment Bec says blindsided her.

According to Bec, the most painful part of the night wasn’t the confrontation with the group, but Danny turning on her in front of everyone.

‘I thought we were walking in there in solidarity,’ she said. ‘I thought you were going to have my back.

‘I felt like I was thrown out to the wolves. Like I was on an island all by myself.’

She added that the constant scrutiny left her in a ‘state of panic’, unsure what drama would surface next.
