MAFS groom David’s surprising revelation about relationship with Alissa that viewers haven’t seen: ‘At my limit’
David claims things have ‘changed’ in their marriage, which would be a big surprise to Aussies.
David Momoh and Alissa Fay are one of the more secure relationships on the 2026 season of Married At First Sight.
They’ve weathered a lot of external drama from other contestants over the last few weeks, but they’ve come out stronger each time.
On Sunday’s Commitment Ceremony, they confirmed to the experts that they’ve gone from strength to strength and are very happy with one another.
But David has given an interview with TV WEEK that casts a very different version of what’s been playing out on screen.
“I gave 100 per cent to the experiment,” he said.
“There were red flags from the beginning – like the ‘get down on one knee’ thing – but I decided to push through because I didn’t want to repeat prejudices I might have on the outside.
“But I was at my limit.”
That red flag he’s referring to was when the pair was at the altar, and Alissa said she couldn’t marry David.
She paused for a very long time before adding that she would only marry him if he actually got down on one knee and proposed to her.
David initially thought she was joking, but she held firm and he eventually agreed.
Things have apparently ‘changed’ with David and Alissa
The e-commerce product manager admitted the bullying that Alissa had received from Bec and Gia during the experiment caused his wife to become a “shell of herself”.
But he claimed that once she got through all that drama, she became friends with “the bullies”.
“She came out to a different side of herself – and then things just changed,” he said.
He added that Alissa apparently started having doubts about their relationship and it led to him wanting “to leave”.
Major twist for couple as viewers hope they stay together
This might come as a shock to many viewers as David and Alissa have been seemingly rock-solid throughout the experiment.
They’ve been in the same camp as Stella and Filip and Rachel and Steven, who, week after week, have sat on the couch in front of the experts and had nothing but good things to say about each other.
While each of those three couples have had their moments, they’ve been in much calmer waters compared to other relationships.
On Sunday night, they revealed to the experts that they had started talking about how to navigate life after the show is done and dusted.
David lives in Queensland and Alissa is Adelaide-based.
Alissa admitted she’s getting to the age where she will want a family soon, and she indicated she would like to be in Adelaide for that.
She told the experts David took that news “amazingly” and he was prepared to move to South Australia to make that happen.
Viewers loved seeing them talk about their future so positively.
“My favourite couple I hope they make it on the outside,” said one.
“They are my favourite couple. I love him such a mature man,” added another.
As this is the last week left of the experiment, it will be interesting to see whether cracks will start to show in Alissa and David’s marriage or if they correct course and steady the ship.
