MAFS’ Chris reveals unaired moment that caused emotional breakdown before split

EXCLUSIVE: Chris and Sam’s marriage had been one of the strongest so far on Married At First Sight until a single confrontation almost destroyed them, however Chris revealed there’s more to the story.

Sam felt blindsided by Chris’ version of life outside the experiment. Speaking to nine.com.au Chris revealed two conversations that happed prior to Sam airing his feelings, which you didn’t see on TV.

“It was really hard to watch back,” said Chris of his confrontation with Sam which turned into a tense back-and-forth between the pair.

What viewers didn’t know at the time, Chris had just come back from an emotional one-on-one date with Rachel as part of the Partner Swap task.

“I said to Rachel, look, this experiment’s really hard for me,” said Chris who was feeling both the “weight” from the experiment and his “fatherhood journey”.

“It was a lot of pressure, and I kind of actually broke down in tears with Rachel,” he revealed.

“There was a lot going on for me, and I definitely could have handled that situation a lot better.”

Chris admitted while he and Sam “hadn’t spoken about the living situation” post MAFS, they “briefly chatted” about Sam moving from Adelaide.

“We hadn’t spoken about him coming to Sydney to be in a relationship with me,” he confirmed. “But he had mentioned that he wanted to get out of Adelaide and go to Sydney or the Gold Coast.”

But Chris didn’t take that as an excuse for his behaviour.

“My comment on the couch were coming from a place of love and genuinely thinking about our lives after the experiment,” said Chris.

“Sam was obviously a little bit disappointed that I didn’t have this chat with him prior, which I totally get.

“In that moment, I probably could have showed him a little bit more patience… my communication wasn’t great either, and that’s definitely something that I’ve worked on since coming off the show.”
