Chris and Sam’s MAFS marriage was going so well, Chris had even cooked up a sweet plan for what their life could look like after the experiment … but it was all news to Sam.
When Sam flagged he would like to be included in the making of those life plans, their otherwise perfect relationship quickly crumbled before our eyes.
Arriving back from his Feedback Week catchup with Filip, Sam was ready to tell Chris how he’d really been feeling.
Sam opened up to Chris, saying: “When we sat on the Commitment Ceremony couch and you said ‘this is how it would work’, that was the first time I heard that plan and it was kind of like you just made a decision on how … ”
But before Sam could even finish his sentence, Chris was quick to correct him.
“Actually no. That’s not true. It wasn’t a plan, it was a suggestion,” he interjected.
What then unfolded was a tense back-and-forth of Chris defending his intentions and Sam searching for a bit of empathy from his partner.
While Sam just wanted a “sorry” and some acknowledgement that he’d be giving up a lot moving to Chris’ farm with his two children, Chris thought the whole conversation was “ridiculous”.
Things only got worse when Chris took offence to Sam asking for more empathy from him.
“He said I have no empathy. People call me an empath all the time,” he told cameras.
For the next 24 hours, tension loomed in Chris and Sam’s apartment as they tried to resolve things.
Safe to say, they were unsuccessful.
“It doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, so unfortunately it’s a bit awks,” Chris told producers.
