Married At First Sight’s Bec Zacharia has revealed how a weekend escape with Danny Hewitt saved their relationship after the infamous retreat scandal that rocked the experiment.
Speaking to Daily Mail on Thursday, Bec, 35, admitted the fallout from her controversial ‘finger***’ comment pushed her to breaking point – and she was ready to quit the show entirely.
‘I wanted to leave. I didn’t want to be there anymore,’ she said.
But in a surprising twist, Danny, 34, stepped in and pulled the couple away from the chaos.
‘Danny came in and said, “We’re not staying here. We’re going to a hotel,” Bec revealed.
‘At that point I was so low. I went back to the room and just got straight into bed. I didn’t even take my clothes off.’

As revealed by the Daily Mail, the couple secretly checked into a hotel in Sydney’s CBD and removed themselves from the experiment for several days.
According to Bec, the break from filming completely changed their relationship.
‘Danny and I removed ourselves from the experiment for a couple of days and we had some really intense conversations about leaving,’ she said.
Instead of ending their marriage, the time away brought them closer together than ever before.
‘It really was a moment that connected us better than we’d ever connected before,’ she admitted.
‘That was the moment I really fell in love with him.’
Away from the cameras and the pressure of the show, Bec said they finally got a taste of what their relationship could look like in the real world.
‘There were no cameras, no curfews, nothing,’ she said.

‘It was just Danny and I spending all day exploring Kiama together.’
She said the couple spent their time walking, having dinner and discussing whether they wanted to continue in the experiment.
‘We were really troubleshooting whether or not we wanted to stay,’ Bec explained.
Ultimately, the experience strengthened their bond.
‘Getting away from the stress of the experiment was the best thing for us,’ she said.
Danny found himself at the centre of the retreat chaos after wife Bec’s infamous ‘finger bang’ comment detonated one of the most uncomfortable moments of the season.
While the remark sparked outrage from Rachel Gilmore and divided the group, Danny insisted there was no malicious intent behind the joke.
As tensions escalated following the fallout, Danny made the call to remove himself and Bec from the retreat entirely.
‘That was my idea,’ he revealed.
‘I’d had enough of all the bulls**t, so I was just like, ‘Let’s get out of here.’
‘So we just pulled a bear move and we bounced.’
The pair temporarily left the experiment and were later checked into a hotel away from the rest of the cast.
‘Just get away for a few days, recharge the batteries,’ he said. ‘It was good to do it.’
Despite the dramatic exit, Danny insisted he had no elaborate strategy when returning for the next dinner party.
