Juliette ripped into her husband Joel and she clearly used a word that was out of bounds.
Married At First Sight viewers were a little confused on Wednesday night’s dinner party episode after Juliette Herrera hurled a controversial word at her groom Joel. Channel 9’s reality TV show has plenty of swearing during its 1.5 hour runtime, and normally people are well aware of what is said when the expletives are beeped out.
But towards the end of the episode, the receptionist said something that was apparently so intense, her mouth was also blurred when she said it. It happened while Joel was being shamed for still having a stuffed teddy as a 31-year-old.
“I’ve never had a problem with teddy,” Juliette said. “What I have a problem with is Joel. I actually like the teddy more than I like Joel. Teddy’s not to a [blank] to me like Joel.”
Just for clarity, while a lot of swear words get bleeped on MAFS, virtually none of them also come with a face blur.
People watching at home were scratching their heads about what had just happened.
“Sorry, what did Juliette say that was bleeped?” said one.
“A what? #MAFSAU what did she say??” added another.
“I missed it a second time!” wrote a third.
Whatever she said, it clearly rocked the experts.
“Oh my god, did she just say that?” said Mel Schilling, while Alessandra Rampolla and John Aiken were also wide-mouthed in shock at the comment.
What did Juliette say that was so controversial?
It wasn’t until Joel and Juliette were on Stan’s After The Dinner Party that the confusion was cleared up, as host Brittany Hockley confirmed it was the C-word.
Juliette told the spin-off show she didn’t think that was such a bombshell word and said it regularly between her friends.
But Joel explained that in that context, it was “aggressive” and “abusive”.
The expletive was just one of many barbs thrown at Joel at the dinner party by his bride, as the pair had not been gelling after two weeks in the experiment.
Juliette had found it difficult to deal with Joel’s theatricality and eccentricity, and things came to a head when the groom claimed his wife didn’t “see the star” in him.
Juliette misunderstood the metaphor and took that to mean he saw himself as a star.
Not only that, she told everyone at the dinner party that Joel thought he was the “star of the show”.
The 31-year-old denied saying that, but it meant everyone took sides on who was telling the truth.
Juliette said watching her behaviour at that dinner party was tough, and she felt “awful” that she concocted an idea of what Joel said to her and blasted that out to everyone.
“Everything was just completely foggy and blurry, and I feel like I was just wigging completely completely out, and just went and out, and I heard the ‘star’ comment and as soon as I heard that, I just went complete boom,” she said.
She added that she had been “suffering” while on the experiment and felt very overwhelmed and that pushed her over the edge.
“I remember at the wedding, I was like, ‘Holy crap, I have got the biggest character I’ve ever met in my life’. And I felt like, day by day, I was quiet, I was suffering a little bit internally, because I just felt like it was a lot for me to handle,” she said.
