Shocking photos of tennis legend Serena Williams looking unrecognisable have been shared days after setting the rumour mill alight.
Serena Williams has shared candid images showing the tennis star’s physical transformation.
The 44-year-old shared an image of herself brushing her teeth in front of a bathroom mirror while wearing underwear and a grey singlet.
The 23-time Grand Slam champ’s images come after she announced in August, 2025, that she had lost more than 14kg.
The image shared this week is one of the few times Williams has shared candid photos where she has not looked glammed up for the camera, since the mother of two, daughters Alexis Alexis Olympia Ohanian and Adira River Ohanion, has been reported as partnering with a telehealth brand as part of a commercial promotion.
But her ads won’t be seen in Australia, where it is illegal to advertise prescription only medicines.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration warns that prescription medicines are “higher risk and should only be determined as an appropriate treatment option in consultation with a professionally trained medical practitioner”.
Williams has put herself in a swirling rumour mill in recent weeks after she ignored questions about a possible return to professional tennis.
It has been more than three years since Williams retired, but she shocked tennis commentators in October, 2025, when reports emerged she had “re-entered anti-doping drug-testing programs”.
Tennis’ umbrella anti-doping agency, the International Tennis Integrity Agency, has publicly confirmed she is back on the list of players registered for anti-doping drug testing.
Despite this, Williams was coy when asked about the development during an appearance on American TV last week.
When Today Show host Savannah Guthrie asked if Williams was returning to tennis, Williams responded: “Really? Are you asking me that on the Today show? Oh, my gosh. Really?”
Guthrie attempted to clarify, “Is that a no?” — only for Williams to parrot the question back.
The tennis champion noted, “People on the set are laughing. This is distracting. … I’m just having fun and enjoying my life right now. … That’s not a yes or a no. I don’t know. I’m just gonna see what happens.”
Guthrie insisted this was “a maybe”, to which Williams clapped back: “That’s not a maybe. Listen, I have two kids. I’m a full-time stay-at-home mum. When I filled out a form the other day for occupation, (I wrote) ‘Housewife.’”
The NBC personality, however, brought her line of questioning back to Williams’ decision to “re-enter” the International Tennis Integrity Agency drug testing pool.
“Did I? I don’t know if I was out,” Williams replied before declaring she couldn’t “discuss this” topic further.
Another topic Williams has been aloof about is ongoing rumours she may announce a return to the sport during an appearance at the Super Bowl.
Her appearance at America’s most-watched sporting event comes as the telehealth company she is promoting, which offers weight-loss drug prescriptions, has purchased an advertising slot on NBC during the game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Sea Hawks
Former world No. 1 Williams appeared at last year’s Super Bowl when she joined rapper Kendrick Lamar on stage for a choreographed dance during the half-time show of Super Bowl LIX.
In September, WHO added prescription weight-loss medicines to its list of essential medicines for type 2 diabetes in high-risk groups.
But now it has released its first guideline on the use of prescription weight-loss medicines for “treating obesity as a chronic, relapsing disease”.
In a recently published post, WHO said it was making “conditional recommendations” for the long-term use of these therapies to support adults living with obesity, citing it as part of an approach that includes “healthy diets, regular physical activity and support from health professionals”.
