A new look that caught everyone’s attention
Jane Bunn has spent years telling Australians what to expect from the weather.
But lately, it has been the 7NEWS Melbourne meteorologist herself who has become the centre of attention.
The 47-year-old stepped onto the red carpet at the St Kilda Best and Fairest/Hall of Fame Night at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium on October 5, wearing a violet and black Sass & Bide ensemble, silver Tony Bianco heels and Swarovski earrings.
Yet it was not simply the outfit that had people talking.
Viewers immediately noticed how much her appearance had changed.
One follower asked Jane how she had managed to lose the weight and pleaded to know her secret. Others described her as looking “phenom”, while another urged her: “Don’t lose any more.”
The reaction has become a recurring theme whenever Jane shares a photo from a major event.
And now, she has something to say about it.
“I’m feeling terrific, happy and healthy”
Jane has admitted that she is genuinely surprised by how much interest her transformation has generated.
“I’m feeling terrific, happy and healthy,” she told the Herald Sun on October 5.
“I’m always surprised people are so interested.”
For Jane, the change has not been about chasing a particular appearance.
She has previously described it as part of a broader decision to put greater emphasis on her physical and mental wellbeing after feeling that she was no longer as fit as she had once been.
She says the changes have brought her more energy and joy, and that she now feels “strong, balanced and genuinely happy.”
The moment that made her look twice
There was one surprisingly ordinary moment that helped trigger the change.
When the Seven News Melbourne team moved to a new studio, Jane learned that she would be appearing in more full-length shots on television.
That prompted her to take a closer look at how she was feeling physically.
The former dancer said she realised she was “much less fit” than she had previously been.
Instead of treating that realisation as a reason for a short-term makeover, she sought professional advice and began making changes to her lifestyle.
It was not an overnight transformation.
Jane has described it as a process that required consistent effort and a different attitude towards food, exercise and wellbeing.

“Eat less, drink less”
One of the biggest changes was surprisingly simple.
Jane said she began paying much closer attention to the signals telling her when she had eaten enough.
“There is actually this sign in your head that tells you ‘you have eaten enough’,” she previously told the Herald Sun.
She said she had struggled for a long time to listen to that signal, but had now learned to stop when she was satisfied rather than automatically finishing everything in front of her.
Jane has also stressed that she still enjoys the things she has always enjoyed.
She loves food, wine and going out for dinner.
The difference, she explained, is moderation — including being more conscious of portions and how much she drinks.
Exercise has always been part of her life
Jane’s commitment to fitness is not entirely new.
In a previous interview, she described herself as “addicted” to her trainer and said her routine included barre, Pilates and HIIT before work.
Her history as a dancer has also shaped the way she approaches movement and fitness.
The difference this time is the broader focus.
Jane has said the changes were prompted by wanting to feel healthier and stronger, rather than simply wanting to look different.
That distinction has become increasingly important as attention around her appearance has grown.
From Brownlow attention to the latest wave of comments
Jane’s transformation first became a major talking point when she appeared on the Brownlow red carpet.
In September, fans once again filled her social media posts with comments about her noticeably slimmer appearance.
Some celebrated the new look.
Others were more concerned, questioning whether she had lost too much weight and even asking where “the rest” of her had gone.
The latest St Kilda appearance has simply reignited the conversation.
Jane, however, appears to have remained remarkably relaxed about it.
She has said she is amused by the level of attention and does not see the transformation as something that should define her.
“She’s still Jane”
That sentiment has also been echoed by someone close to Jane’s world.
A source previously told Woman’s Day that despite the striking change, Jane is still very much the same person away from the cameras.
“She’s not suddenly going to make everything about being glamorous,” the source said.
“She’ll happily take the compliments, laugh about the fuss and then get on with her life.”
It is perhaps the simplest explanation for why Jane herself seems less fascinated by the transformation than many of her followers.
For her, the bigger story is how she feels.
Away from the weather map
Jane has been a familiar face at 7NEWS Melbourne for more than a decade and remains the station’s resident meteorologist. Her official profile describes her as a qualified Melbourne meteorologist who presents the weather across Seven’s Melbourne and national bulletins.
Away from television, she is married to Michael, an IT consultant who largely keeps out of the public spotlight.
Jane has previously spoken about prioritising her wellbeing alongside her busy professional life, while Michael has publicly described his wife in warmly affectionate terms.
For someone who has spent years under the scrutiny that comes with being a familiar television face, Jane appears to have arrived at a point where outside opinions matter less than how she feels herself.
The questions may continue — but Jane has answered one of them
There is no shortage of curiosity about Jane’s transformation.
Her appearance has changed significantly, and fans are likely to continue comparing recent photographs with older ones.
There has also been online speculation about weight-loss medication, but Jane has not said that she uses Ozempic or another specific weight-loss drug. Her own explanation has focused on prioritising her health, seeking professional guidance, eating more mindfully and maintaining regular exercise.
So while the questions surrounding her new appearance may not disappear anytime soon, Jane’s own message is remarkably clear.
She says she feels healthy.
She says she feels stronger.
And most importantly, she says she is happy.
For a woman whose job is usually to tell Melbourne what is coming next, the most unexpected forecast of all has been the one about herself — and Jane Bunn appears more comfortable with the new chapter than anyone watching from the outside might have expected.
